Q: Where did your passion for style and clothes come from?
A: My journey with fashion and my love for clothes started as a little girl. I grew up in a very creative household where my father designed and built our home. He and my brother were also talented at drawing and painting. I couldn’t draw, but my creative outlet was fashion. I would buy every fashion magazine and cut out photos to make a fashion collage that covered both of my closet doors. What I didn’t realize at that time, I was creating my vision board.
My senior year of high school I was accepted to a fashion design school in Miami. I was so excited, but my father didn’t like the idea of his 18 year old daughter leaving Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to go to Florida. So I ended up choosing a college closer to home, but they didn’t have a fashion program. After leaving college, I attended a modeling school in Pittsburgh, and I eventually signed with an agency once I moved to New Jersey, but because of my height, it was challenging to book jobs. Although my modeling career never panned out, my love for fashion always remained, and I nurtured my passion through building a closet of clothes that allowed me to express my personal style.
Q: Why did you decide to start a blog?
A: I started this blog to talk about fashion and aging. At the beginning of the pandemic, I lost a job that I had for 18 years all while turning 60. I started to think about what direction I wanted to go in next. For my 60th birthday, my husband gave me the best gift - a closet makeover! The only problem was that I had way too many clothes. My daughter came to help me purge and reorganize. Boy did we bump heads! She wanted me to get rid of more than I was willing to let go of. I did donate a lot of clothes, but I hung onto things that I thought I could revamp.
Once I started putting outfits together with items I had for years, I realized that other women in my age group may have similar items in their closet. This blog is the perfect way for me to connect with women and share what works for me in recreating my style.
Q: What can readers expect from this blog?
A: For those who are interested in taking this journey with me, I’m going to be showing you how I take older pieces from my closet and pair them with new items and accessories to give it a whole new look. It is my hope that you will be inspired to go through your closet and rediscover how to style some of your own clothes.
